Frequently Asked Questions

How long does testing take?

It depends greatly on your child. Full testing usually takes about 4-6 hours of your child’s time in-person. This may be done in 1, 2, or 3 sessions based on the age, attention span, and comfort of the child. Preschool and Elementary students are always given at least two sessions. Depending on your case, there may also be parent and/or teacher interviews, review of documents, and/or classroom observations. Once data is collected, you can generally expect an opportunity to review findings within 1-2 weeks. Reports are generally between 10 and 20 pages of comprehensive information and readily applicable recommendations.

Do we take insurance?

Unfortunately at this time, we do not accept insurance. However, for some services we can generate a superbill which you can present to your insurance and request out of network reimbursement. For other services, some clients have been able to use flexible spending accounts.

Should parents stay during assessment?

That is completely up to you. Some parents feel better staying in the waiting area during assessment, and some choose to use the time to take care of other duties. You are not required to stay in the room. The only time waiting would be discouraged is in the instance that a child becomes distracted with the idea that one of their favorite people are close by. If you choose to remain in the waiting area, the office door will be closed during testing to help your child stay on task and to preserve the integrity of the testing environment.

How will results be shared?

We review findings via video call with the parents. We allot an hour for these sessions, but they typically take between 30 minutes and an hour depending on your questions. After the meeting, your assessor will send you a pdf of the completed report. The report is then yours to share with whomever you find relevant to your child’s development. In general, we like to personally review the findings with parents prior to sending reports. We want all of your questions to be answered in the moments you see the results in order to decrease any feelings of uncertainty. Should you have questions after this meeting, you are always invited to reach out. It is of the upmost importance to us that you feel confident in applying the information we gather during assessment.

How will we make your child comfortable during testing?

We are strong believers that children perform best when they are happy. While we cannot guarantee that every child will be excited to come to testing, we make it as painless as possible. Toys and gross motor movement opportunities are available while we build rapport and when we take breaks. Flexible seating and fidgets are available for children who have difficulty sustaining attention. Some snacks and water are available, but children are welcome to bring preferred snacks along. It is absolutely okay to eat during testing.
